چکیده
Broadband wireless networks have received a lot of research and development in the last few years. This network technology offers data rates in the 100s of Mbps with a range of tens of miles. The IEEE have developed the 802.16 standards, also called WiMAX, to provide specifications for these networks. Currently, there are over 500 deployments of WiMAX in over 140 countries with millions of subscribers. One of the standards, IEEE 802.16j, specifies the use of Relay Stations (RS) in the WiMAX network architecture. RSs are considered to be a simplified version of the Base Station (BS). Performance Analysis of WiMAX Networks with Relay Station
IEEE 802.16 is a Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) network and thus it is considered to be an alternative solution to wired broadband technologies. Relay station plays a promising role of extending the range of Base station for long distances in WiMAX networks. Relay station is suitable to areas with limited infrastructure such as rural, hilly and lakes, where it is difficult to install many Base...
متن کاملIncreasing Reliability for IEEE 802.16j Mobile Multi-hop Relay Networks Planning
Abstract IEEE 802.16 network is a new generation of broadband networks. Recently, relay stations in IEEE 802.16j are proposed to perform as lightweight base station solutions to extend coverage and/or increase throughput. However, the 802.16j networks are tree-based structure which suffers from the single point of failure problem. In this paper, we define the coverage problem to place the base ...
متن کاملOptimal Placement of Transparent Relay Stations in 802.16j Mobile Multihop Relay Networks
WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) has emerged as a promising radio access technology for providing high speed broadband connectivity to subscribers over large geographic regions. New enhancements allow deployments of relay stations (RSs) that can extend the coverage of the base station (BS), increase cell capacity, or both. In this paper, we consider the placement of transparent RSs that maximize the cell ca...
متن کاملAn Overview of Group Key Management Issues in IEEE 802.16e Networks
The computer industry has defined the IEEE 802.16 family of standards that will enable mobile devices to access a broadband network as an alternative to digital subscriber line technology. As the mobile devices join and leave a network, security measures must be taken to ensure the safety of the network against unauthorized usage by encryption and group key management. IEEE 802.16e uses Multica...
متن کاملPerformance Analysis of QoS in PMP Mode WiMax Networks
IEEE 802.16 standard supports two different topologies: point to multipoint (PMP) and Mesh. In this paper, a QoS mechanism for point to multipoint of IEEE 802.16 and BS scheduler for PMP Mode is proposed. This paper also describes quality of service over WiMAX networks. Average WiMAX delay, Average WiMAX load and Average WiMAX throughput at base station is analyzed and compared by applying diff...
